PRACTICE PRESCRIBING POLICY

repeat prescriptionsTo adhere to best practice guidelines, you will find that:

  • We avoid using antibiotics, when we know that they will not work, for example in treating any viral infection such as colds, flu, most sore throats, and so on. Read more on HSE website.
  • We will seek alternatives to prescribing addictive medications such as sleeping tablets or relaxing tablets (‘Benzodiazepines’ – read more here or on Patient.co.uk: Benzodiazepines and Z Drugs and Stopping Benzodiazepines and Z Drugs)
  • If you have not attended for some time, you might be asked to attend for a check-up (for example, blood pressure check, or relevant blood tests). This could also include a review of your tablets and a discussion on the prescribing choices.

You can order a repeat prescription by:

ONLINE by completing an online repeat prescription order form

TELEPHONE by contacting the practice on  01 795 6010 or 01 795 6012.

IN PERSON at reception.

Please let us know exactly which items you require and don’t require that month. Private prescriptions usually incur a charge.

If a hospital prescription needs to be transferred on to a GMS prescription, please drop the script into reception and it will be ready after the end of the next surgery. Remember, your pharmacist is allowed to dispense 7 days as an emergency supply.

COLLECTION Repeat prescriptions will usually be ready for collection 24 hours after requested online during working hours. In case of holidays, weekends or out of hours please allow 24 hours from the next working day (e.g. prescription requests on Friday evening or Saturday/Sunday would be ready on Tuesday, while requests submitted on bank holiday Monday would be available on Wednesday).

Please inform us if someone other than the patient will be collecting the prescription.
